About Lynn

img2img4wembleyimg7img6about1img1about1DSC00452My sister bought me my first guitar for my 11th birthday and I learned to play listening to the music of Buddy Holly, Eddie Cochran, the Everly Bros and Chuck Berry.

When Chuck Berry came to Hull in 1965 I saw his Cherry Red Gibson and I went out to buy the same guitar as soon as I could afford one. That guitar celebrates its 48th birthday with me this year and the two of us played in bands all through all the good times of the ’60s.

In the early ’70s I was in the well know Hull band Sam (and later Uncle Sam), supporting Thin Lizzy, Chris Spedding, Hot Chocolate, The Hollies, The Merseybeats, Stealer’s Wheel and many more. From the ’70s and to this day I have listened to and played country rock music from the Flying Burritos, Crosby, Stills and Nash, Poco, the Eagles and Steve Earle. I started playing the pedal steel guitar in 1976 after seeing Rusty Young with Poco at Newcastle City Hall. Playing took me to Germany, Holland, Belgium, Norway, Denmark, Nashville, New York and the highlight of my career, playing at The 1982 Country Music Festival at Wembley, where I met Kris Kristofferson and Tammy Wynette.

Over the years I have shared the stage or the company of Bernard Manning, Tommy Cooper, J.D. Fontana (Elvis’s drummer), James Burton (Elvis’s guitarist), Chris Hillman (The Byrds), Chas and Dave, Albert Lee (played guitar for everyone!), Al Perkins (Eagles, Rolling Stones, Emmy Lou Harris, and more), B.J. Cole (the pedal steel ‘god’), Sonny Curtis (guitarist and songwriter with Buddy Holly) Tommy Allsup (the one who didn’t get in the plane with Buddy Holly) , Richard Branson…….

I still sing & play pedal steel guitar, guitars, banjo and flute in local bands.

About the shop

In 1974 I left my job and opened a guitar and drum store on Hessle Rd in Hull. Along side that I started making speaker cabinets and flight cases under the name of Greyhound Cases, which became well known around the world! I made cases for Level 42, Steve Davis, Eurythmics, Alan Price among others and I designed and produced the very first semi-flight case for GuildGuitars.

I moved to Beverley Road, Hull in 1988, opened The Gig Shop and concentrated on selling sound equipment and manufacturing cases. I was asked on many occasions if I could provide a full live concert service, so I developed this side of the business and handed over the case making to a colleague who still produces cases under the Chameleon brand.Anita joined us as sound engineer and together we became well known with bands visiting the area’s favorite music venue in Hull for providing a great sound. We made many friends by being extra helpful and great fun to work with.

We expanded our group in 2007 to include Tom, Lee & Stevie Mac doing freelance sound and lighting work. Tom is not only an excellent sound engineer, but also a wizard on the lighting desk. Lee is expert in live and theatre lighting . Steve has a world wide reputation and has worked with many well known names such as Kanye West, The Spice Girls and the BBC. He is our first choice for customers with a demanding rider.
